Next Sunday night the oldest of ETC Maryland’s webservers(web1) will go offline for approximately 3 hours as the operating system gets a much needed upgrade. I have run CentOS7 from the outset of my hosting business and while it is still supported, I am spending way too much time modifying it to support the latest web hosting packages. Besides taking up time it also means I am modifying CentOS away from it’s base configuration more and more and that makes me uncomfortable. The system will be upgraded to Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. This puts the base operating system at a point where all of the web hosting software out of the box is in a supported state and will remain that way for a couple of years. This will also make me a 100% Ubuntu host. With RedHat Enterprise Linux just now going into private testing it would be too long for me to wait.
