For the first 10 years of my hosting service I have used Ubuntu Server LTS. Ubuntu has become quite bloated and the amount of time I spent turning off cruft in the background has gotten to be on par with Windows. With RedHat now being totally a paid for product that I do not require, a change had to be made. With my recent move to new datacenter partners, this was the perfect time to re-evaluate my usage of Ubuntu. Debian is much leaner than it’s Ubuntu offshoot. While Debian doesn’t always have everything out of the box, adding whatever needs to be added is very simple and much more time efficient than spending time disabling everything else Ubuntu brings along with it. Starting today all VPS clients will be installed with or converted to Debian 12. I will be migrating the shared servers to Debian in the next few months as well.
