Many cameras require open ports for remote access.and also run outdated operating systems that are ripe for takeover. This article points out this attack leveraged Linux…Linux itself isn’t the issue, the lack of security updates AND the fact the cameras required open ports AND were on the same network as the data shares is where the problem is. This company could have easily mitigated this by using a cameras vendor that doesn’t require direct open ports to the internet and also put those cameras on their own subnet firewall4ed away from the rest of the network.
