Dropbox has lost client data permanently, Google drive has as well, now it’s Amazon’s turn.  Amazon deleted a person’s 10 year old account…and there was no backup.  What most folks do not understand is that most times your service is best effort.  The provider makes no promises about keeping your data safe and secure…unless you pay a high premium for it.  This is why i advise everyone on the cloud to make sure the Terms of service says explicitly that they provide backups..then you are on your own.  I have written extensively about the cloud earlier in this site.  The cloud is no more secure in terms of data integrity than your in house systems are unless you specifically are paying for them to provide backups.  Do not depend on your cloud vendor to keep your data safe.  I always recommend you should have another cloud provider that specializes in backups running to keep your cloud data safe.  If you want to learn more or have ETC Maryland evaluate your operations for data safety and security, contact us.
